Happy New Year Everyone!
We hope you had a wonderful holiday season and a great start to the new year!
We know those New Year’s Resolutions can be hard to keep, but in light of National Walk Your Pet Month we hope you will try and keep this one going!
Here are some advantages to grabbing the leash and getting going:
- Helps prevent obesity or becoming overweight. This can prevent future health issues such diabetes, Cushings disease, and cancer.
- Builds a stronger bond and develops trust with your loved one. If you have a shy or nervous pet or you have just adopted a new friend, then the best thing you can do is take them for a walk! This will allow you to establish a better relationship with your pet or build upon the one you already have!
- Assists with unruly or hyperactive behavior as well as prevent barking, whining, chewing, scratching, etc. Taking your pet on a daily walk allows them to burn off built-up energy and give them a constructive outlet versus a destructive one. This can allow your pet to sleep better, and reduce “attention-seeking behaviors” overall.
- Promotes a healthy digestive tract. A walk for your pet can not only benefit their behavior, but also their body’s everyday functions by avoiding symptoms such as constipation or abnormal bowel movements, and allow them to maintain an overall healthy weight. Exercise is just as important as diet when trying to control your loved one’s weight or encourage weight loss.
There are numerous advantages to walking your pet and it can even be beneficial for yourself! National Walk Your Pet Month is this month but we hope we can all continue this throughout the year!
